TED was conceived by Richard Saul Wurman in February 1984 as a conference which has been held annually since 1990. TED's early emphasis was on technology and design, consistent with its Silicon Valley origins, but it has since broadened its repertoire to include talks on many scientific, cultural, and academic topics. It is owned by Chris Anderson, a British American businessman, through the Sapling foundation.
Since June 2006, TED Talks have been offered for free viewing online, under an Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives Creative Commons license, through TED.com. As of January 2018, over 2,600 TED Talks are freely available on the website. In June 2011, TED Talks' combined viewing figure stood at more than 500 million, and by November 2012, TED Talks had been watched over one billion times worldwide. TED Talks given by academics tend to be watched more online while art and design videos tend to be watched less than average.
The main TED conference is held annually in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Prior to 2014, the conference was held in Long Beach, California, United States. TED events are also held throughout North America and in Europe and Asia, offering live streaming of the talks. They address a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture, often through storytelling. The TEDx community bestows us with the opportunity to navigate through ideas having a probability of bringing about unparalleled transitions which will ultimately work for the amelioration of the society. Venturing into uncharted territories has always been a challenging encounter. The maiden edition of TEDxKIITUniversity was a unique and unprecedented achievement in itself. The exceptional levels of success attained in the next two editions that ensued, speak volumes about the possible ideas that are capable of helping us conceive monumental metamorphosis to the society. This year, we aim to bring together such intellectuals who have the capability to seek. their finesse and work for uplifting mankind in every aspect of their lives.
This year we are focussing on ideas which may seem small but have managed to bring about remarkable transformations in the community. TEDxKIITUniversity intends to extend its platform to individuals who have been working relentlessly to induce the 'biggest small change. An idea is like a resilient virus. The smallest seed of an idea that is sowed, is capable of bearing revolutionary changes that are adept in reshaping the modus operandi of our sphere. At TEDxKIITUniversity, we build a platform wherein eminent people voice their ideas and objectives on a common platform so as to inspire and impel the crowd with their opinions, visions and perspectives. In order for a new idea to be born, we need to think out of the box. However, we must also keep in mind that it is not enough. For an idea to propagate and reach out to masses, a reliable platform is a necessity. We help students and intellectuals promote their aspirations and mantra that might, in turn, serve as a blueprint in bringing about positive variations in the society.
